For an Iowa City household with limited storage, start with the order size rather than the biggest potential purchase. Our First Taste Sampler contains three steak cuts and three pounds of ground beef. It gives you a way to try our dry-aged Angus across different meals without committing to an approximately 100-pound quarter share.
A steak box is a more specialized choice. Our Reserve Steak Box contains 16 steaks across six cuts, so it suits a menu built around steak dinners. Ground beef purchased on its own is the more direct route when most of your cooking involves meat sauce, burgers, chili, or tacos. Match the assortment to your routine instead of buying a box simply because it looks substantial.
Count usable freezer space before ordering. Shelves, drawers, ice trays, and the food already stored there reduce the room available for new packages. Ask us about the expected package volume if space is tight. A smaller order you can organize well is more useful than a share that leaves no room for the rest of your groceries.
Mundorf Heritage Beef comes from our family farm near Red Oak in Southwest Iowa. Our family farming history dates to 1873. We are an Iowa producer serving Iowa City buyers, not a farm within Iowa City or a nearby retail pickup counter.
Our Angus cattle are pasture raised and grass fed, then grain finished with corn included in their diet. We keep the whole description together because a buyer looking for exclusively grass-finished beef needs a different product. Breed, pasture access, finishing diet, and dry aging each tell you something specific; none replaces the others.
The reserve steaks and shares are dry-aged up to 21 days. Our single-source ground beef is dry-aged for 14 days and comes from one animal. Beef is processed at a USDA-inspected facility, vacuum sealed, and frozen. Read the Mundorf family story and practices for more about the farm behind your order.
CUSTOM-CUT BEEF SHARES
Buying bulk beef for Iowa City? Compare the complete listed price with the amount due to reserve. These are approximate custom-cut quantities, not hanging-weight quotes. Delivery arrangements for shares must be confirmed with Jeff.
| Share | Approx. beef | Total price | Deposit | Planning cost/lb* |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Quarter beef | 100 lb | $1,250 | $500 | $12.50 |
| Half beef | 200 lb | $2,350 | $800 | $11.75 |
| Whole beef | 400 lb | $4,697 | $1,200 | $11.74 |
*Illustrative calculation: total listed price divided by advertised approximate pounds. Actual cut yield varies. This is not a guaranteed per-pound quote and does not add any applicable shipping, delivery, or tax. Deposits are nonrefundable and count toward the listed total. Confirm current prices and availability on each product page.
A share is worth planning around the cuts you use, not just this arithmetic. Choose a quarter for a smaller custom supply, a half for a larger household or an agreed split, and a whole only when the storage, budget, and cooking plan support it. Explore our Iowa beef-share guide before reserving.
Sharing an order can make a larger purchase practical, but a good split starts before the deposit. Decide which household will manage the reservation, how you will divide the cost, and who will receive the beef. Then talk about the actual cuts each kitchen wants to cook.
Consider a half share advertised at approximately 200 pounds and $2,350 total. A simple two-way split is about 100 pounds and $1,175 of listed beef cost per household. That is only planning arithmetic: final weights, the value of different cuts, delivery costs, and any special arrangements need to be agreed separately.
Compare that arrangement with each household reserving its own quarter. The independent quarter lists $1,250 total and a $500 nonrefundable deposit. The best choice depends on whether you want independent cut preferences and scheduling or are comfortable coordinating a shared order. Do not assume two equal shares of a half will contain identical steaks and roasts.
Ask Jeff what packaging and fulfillment arrangement can be supported before reserving. Read the quarter-versus-half comparison and cut-sheet guide together. A clear agreement before processing is much easier than trying to change a finished custom order.
Use your own consumption to estimate how long a share will last. At three pounds cooked each week, an approximately 100-pound quarter represents about 33 weeks of beef. At six pounds a week, it represents about 17 weeks. This is a quantity-planning example, not a freshness deadline, serving-size recommendation, or promise of an exact take-home weight.
Think about variety as well as volume. If you cook ground beef several nights a week but seldom prepare a roast, discuss that pattern while completing the cut sheet. If your schedule changes often, keep an inventory of packages and choose meals from what is already frozen before adding more to the order.
Our boxed orders ship Monday through Wednesday and usually arrive one to three business days after shipment. Enter the precise Iowa City, Coralville, North Liberty, or other address at checkout to check options and charges. A perishable delivery needs a reliable receiving plan, especially in a shared building or when you will be away.
A beef share follows its harvest date and processing timeline, with pickup generally described as 25 to 30 days after harvest. Contact Jeff to arrange farm pickup or delivery and confirm what works for your address. There is no need to wait for a future share to try our beef: a smaller box can be your first order.
FROM FARM TO FREEZER
Pick a beef box for a listed assortment, or reserve a share after confirming its harvest and fulfillment plan. Check current availability and the full order cost.
Boxed orders ship Monday through Wednesday. Most arrive one to three business days after shipment, with tracking by email. Beef shares follow their separate harvest and processing schedule.
Orders ship frozen in insulated boxes with coolant. Arrange to bring your package inside promptly and put the beef away. Review our shipping policy for current terms.
Receiving safety: USDA advises checking arrival temperature. Beef should be frozen, icy, or below 40 F; do not eat an order that arrives warm. USDA mail-order food guidance. Contact Jeff within 48 hours about a warm or delayed order, as our shipping policy requests.
BEFORE YOU ORDER
Yes. Our shipping policy covers the continental United States, including Iowa City. Order boxed beef online and enter the delivery address at checkout. If you are reserving a custom-cut share, speak with Jeff about the harvest timing and the specific pickup or delivery arrangement first.
Start by looking at the First Taste Sampler rather than a quarter share. It contains three steaks and three pounds of ground beef. Check your usable empty space and contact us about package dimensions if needed; we do not assume every refrigerator freezer can hold a bulk order.
At the current $89 listed price, the sampler contains one boneless ribeye, one reserve New York strip, one reserve filet mignon, and three one-pound ground beef packages. It offers both steak-night and everyday cooking options without the harvest reservation and scale of a beef share.
Our farm is near Red Oak in Southwest Iowa, not in Iowa City. We serve Iowa City customers through boxed shipping and arranged share fulfillment. Do not treat this page as a local storefront or pickup address; coordinate any farm visit or share collection directly with Jeff.
Our standard shipping coverage is the continental United States, so use your precise Coralville, North Liberty, or other address at checkout for the applicable options. Large share orders require a separate fulfillment conversation. We do not advertise a fixed local delivery route or a nearby pickup counter here.
Discuss the arrangement before placing a reservation. A half is approximately 200 pounds, so two households could plan around about 100 pounds each, but cuts and final weights vary. Agree on payment, cut preferences, package division, and collection; separate deliveries are not automatically included.
The quarter share is $1,250 total for approximately 100 pounds of custom-cut beef, with a $500 nonrefundable deposit. Confirm any delivery charges and current product terms before reserving. It is a substantially larger purchase than a sampler and should fit your freezer and cooking plans.
It depends on how much you cook. Using the approximate 100-pound share weight, three pounds per week is about 33 weeks, while six pounds is about 17 weeks. These are planning examples, not exact yields or storage-life guarantees. Your cut choices and weekly meals determine the actual pace.
Mundorf Angus cattle are pasture raised and grass fed, then grain finished, including corn. They are not exclusively grass finished. We explain this openly because the finishing diet is an important buying preference and should not be obscured by a shorter grass-fed label.
We send a cut sheet ahead of the harvest date and help you work through your preferences. Think about steak thickness, roast portions, and the meals you cook most often. If sharing an order, agree on those choices with the other household before submitting instructions.
Boxed orders generally arrive one to three business days after shipping, with dispatch Monday through Wednesday. That estimate starts at shipment. A reserved share is different: the product listings describe readiness about 25 to 30 days after harvest, followed by the agreed pickup or delivery plan.
Choose a box first when you want to taste the beef, have limited storage, or prefer a specific assortment. Reserve a share when you are ready for a larger custom-cut supply and its full cost. Contact Jeff with your timing and ZIP code if you need help deciding.
