Filling your freezer with real Iowa beef should not mean guessing at the grocery meat counter. A beef share from Mundorf Heritage Beef gives your family a quarter, half, or whole cow of pasture raised, grass fed and grain finished Angus, dry-aged and custom cut the way you actually cook. Raised on our seventh-generation family farm near Red Oak, Iowa.
Most families buy beef a pound at a time, pay a rising price every trip, and never really know where it came from or how it was raised. Buying a share flips that. You buy once, straight from the Iowa family that raised the animal, and you know the exact source of every steak, roast, and pound of ground beef in your freezer. You choose the cuts. We dry-age and custom cut them. You pick up nearby or we get it to you. Then you push your cart right past the meat counter for the better part of a year.
Every share is the same great Angus beef from our family farm. The only question is how much freezer you want to fill. Prices below are the full share price with the reservation deposit shown, and the per-pound figure is your all-in cost for finished, custom-cut, dry-aged beef.
| Share | Take-home beef | Full price | Deposit to reserve | Per pound | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Quarter cow | ~100 lbs | $1,250 | $500 | ~$12.50 | Couples and smaller freezers |
| Half cow | ~200 lbs | $2,350 | $800 | ~$11.75 | Families who cook beef weekly |
| Whole cow | ~400 lbs + organs | $4,697 | $1,200 | ~$11.74 | Best value, big families or splitting with friends |
Weights are approximate finished, take-home weights and vary with the animal and your cut choices. The deposit reserves your share and applies to the total.
A quarter beef share (quarter cow) is about 100 pounds of custom-cut, take-home beef, and it is the easiest way to try a share for the first time. You still get the full range of the animal, steaks, roasts, and ground beef, in a size that fits a standard kitchen freezer. It is the right call for couples, small families, or anyone who wants steakhouse-quality Iowa beef at home without committing to a half.
A half beef share (half cow) is about 200 pounds of take-home beef, and it is where most Iowa families land. If you cook beef most weeks, a half stocks your freezer for roughly a year and drops your per-pound cost below the quarter. You get every cut you want and none you do not, from quick weeknight ground beef to the ribeyes you save for Sunday.
A whole beef share (whole cow) is about 400 pounds of custom-cut beef from a single animal, plus a complete array of organ meats. It is our best price per pound and true food security: a year or more of real Iowa beef, every pound traceable to one animal raised on our family farm. Many families split a whole with relatives or friends and each walk away with a half at the whole-cow price.
Mundorf Heritage Beef is real Iowa beef from a seventh-generation family farm near Red Oak. We raise Angus on pasture, finish it on grain the old way, never rushed, and dry-age it up to 21 days for flavor and tenderness you cannot buy at a grocery store. Because you order a share direct from us, you talk to the family that raised the animal, and you control every cut. That is the difference between mystery beef by the pound and a freezer full of beef you trust.
Local pickup is near Red Oak, Iowa. We also deliver beef shares to the surrounding area, including Council Bluffs and Omaha, and we can ship after your beef finishes aging. Wherever you are in western Iowa or eastern Nebraska, we will get your share to your freezer.
A good rule of thumb is about one cubic foot of freezer space for every 35 to 40 pounds of packaged beef. A quarter cow fits comfortably in a standard kitchen freezer or a small chest freezer. A half cow calls for a dedicated chest or upright freezer of roughly 7 cubic feet. A whole cow is best with a larger chest freezer, or plan to split it with family.
Choose your share, place your deposit, and we will be in touch to build your cut sheet. Your freezer, and your grocery budget, will thank you.
